ARTISTIC LINEAGE & EARLY FOUNDATION

Born in Erickavu near Haripad in Kerala, Sunil began learning the Mridangam at the age of four. His foundational training under Krishnappa Bhagavathar and M. S. Raju laid the groundwork for disciplined musicianship. His artistry was profoundly shaped and elevated under the legendary maestro Prof. Mavelikkara Velukkutty Nair, whose rigorous mentorship refined his technique, tonal architecture, accompaniment aesthetics, and concert sensibility to a professional zenith.

CONCERT CAREER & COLLABORATIONS

Over the years, Sunil has performed alongside stalwarts of Carnatic music, including T. V. Sankaranarayanan, Neyyattinkara Vasudevan, Prof. Parassala Ponnammal, Prof. Mavelikkara Prabhakara Varma, Prof. Mavelikkara Velukkutty Nair, Madurai G. S. Mani, Dr. S. Sowmya, Dr. K. Omanakkutty, Thiruvengadu Jayaraman, among many other distinguished vocalists and instrumentalists. He has also shared stages with senior and emerging musicians including Bangalore S. Shankar, Prof. K. Venktaramanan, Dr. Cherthala Renganatha Sharma, Dr. Sreevalsan J. Menon, Pranavam Sankaran Namboodiri, Bangalore T.S. Pattabhirama Pandit, Kunnakkudi Balamuralikrishna, Sharreth, Mathangi Sathyamoorthy, Dr. Baby Sriram, M. Jayachandran, Balabhaskar, Kavalam Sreekumar, Sriram Gangadharan, T. V. His performances have been featured at India's most prestigious classical music platforms and festivals, including the National Programme of Music broadcast by All India Radio and Doordarshan, SVBC Nadaneerajanam (Tirupati), Nishagandhi Monsoon Raga Festival (Thiruvananthapuram), Thureeyam National Music Festival (Payyannur), Nishagandhi Monsoon Raga Festival (Trivandrum), Ragasudha National Music Festival (Thrissur), and leading sabhas such as Sree Swathi Thirunal Sangeeth Sabha, Sree Poornathrayeesha Sabha and other major sabhas and temples across India.

Sunil is an A-Grade Mridangam Artiste of All India Radio, India's national public service broadcaster, an elite recognition conferred upon musicians of exceptional artistic merit. His performances are noted for their sensitive accompaniment, mathematical sophistication, and powerful yet aesthetic rhythmic architecture, hallmarks of the highest tradition of Carnatic percussion.

LAYA VADYA SUDHA - EXPANDING PERCUSSIVE HORIZONS

As Founder and Artistic Director of Laya Vadya Sudha, Sunil leads a pioneering Indian percussion ensemble featuring Mridangam, Kanjira, Ghatam, Morsing, Mizhavu, Thakil, and Tabla. This initiative reflects his vision to present rhythm as a collaborative, multidimensional art form and to expand the experiential landscape of Indian percussion for modern audiences.

GLOBAL TEACHING - MRIDANGAM & KONNAKKOL

Parallel to his concert career, Sunil is deeply committed to pedagogy. Serving as Assistant Professor of Mridangam at Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed to be University for Arts & Culture, he integrates performance excellence with academic rigor.

He mentors students in Mridangam and Konnakkol across India, Europe, North America, and other global regions through advanced online training platforms. His expertise in Konnakkol, the art of vocalizing rhythmic syllables, strengthens his role in preserving and disseminating one of the world's most sophisticated rhythmic languages.

His teaching methodology harmonizes traditional gurukula values with structured, research-driven pedagogy, enabling students to develop:
